District field hockey: Phoenixville settles score with Pope John Paul II

PHOENIXVILLE  - Phoenixville had a major score to settle with Pope John Paul II Tuesday.

Denied a PAC-10 Final Four playoff berth on tiebreaking criteria to those same Golden Panthers, the Phantoms showed who was boss with a 6-0 rout of PJP in the opening round of the District 1-AA field hockey tournament.

Chandler DiFebbo and Megan Loughery collected two goals apiece to propel No. 7 Phoenixville into the district quarterfinals Thursday (3:30 p.m.) at second-seeded Gwynedd Mercy Academy.

DiFebbo scored off a corner to kick off the romp, and Phoenixville never looked back as Ali Meszaros and Rachel Boone also contributed goals.

The Phantoms (11-7 overall), who scored three times in each half, posted advantages of 27-1 in shots and 17-1 in corners.  The brightest light for PJP (7-8) was keeper Marley Galato with an amazing 21 saves.
