Early exits for PAC qualifiers at District 1 singles tournament

SPRINGFIELD – It was one and done, four and out for the Pioneer Athletic Conference entries in the District 1 singles championship at the Healthplex Friday.

Phoenixville’s Mike Ellis - the runnerup to Owen J. Roberts’ Holden Smith in last week’s PAC singles tournament - was among the opening-round casualties in the Class AAA bracket along with Phoenixville’s Graham Light and Norristown’s Franko Waweru. Also ousted was Pope John Paul’s Lorenz Rustandi in the Class AA field.

Ellis fell to quarterfinalist Tristan Bradley of Unionville 6-0, 6-1; Light was bumped by Radnor’s Max Safanov 6-0, 6-1; Waweru lost to Souderton’s Evan Delp 6-3, 6-4 and Rustandi was eliminated by Ryan Farber of Lower Moreland 6-2, 6-3.

Two-time District 1 and defending state champion Michael Dickson of Downingtown East, seeded No. 1, advanced to the quarterfinals along with Lower Merion’s (2) Matt Robinson and (3) Matt Chen.
