Field hockey: Perkiomen Valley edges Owen J. Roberts for third place in district

(4) Perkiomen Valley 2, (3) Owen J. Roberts 1 – Lauren Keyte converted off a Danielle Hamm assist in the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and carry the Vikings to victory over their PAC rivals Friday in the District 1-3A third-place game.
Perk Valley, which advances to the first round of the state tournament Tuesday against District 2 champion Wilkes-Barre Area, rode a sturdy defense anchored by Ashley Derrick’s 10 saves to victory over the Wildcats.
For OJR, which will open PIAA play Tuesday against the District 12 champion (Cardinal O’Hara or Northeast) at an undetermined time and site, Julia Lamb provided an early 1-0 lead with a goal assisted by Raina Smolij.
But that was all the offense the Cats could muster despite lopsided advantages of 19-4 in shots and 10-5 in penalty corners.
