GIRLS BASKETBALL: PJP, Methacton, Pottsgrove open PAC-10 seasons with win

Pope John Paul II 40, Phoenixville 35 - Devin Casey collected 14 points and Taylor Bearden added 12 as the Golden Panthers made their Pioneer Athletic Conference a successful one Tuesday night. PJP assumed control with a 14-9 first-quarter advantage.

Methacton 43, Owen J. Roberts 34 - The Warriors (1-2 overall) broke into the win column behind Maddy Parker’s 21-point outburst in the PAC-10 opener for both squads.

Kara Steinke added another 10 for Methacton, which used a 21-10 fourth-quarter advantage to turn around a two-point deficit (24-22). OJR got 12 points from Anna Janisch.

Pottsgrove 43, Upper Perkiomen 39 - The Falcons used 15-8 third-quarter run and the double-figures scoring of Brandi Dickinson (11 points), Marisa Kinneer (10) and Jackie Bealer (10) to capture their PAC-10 opener. Upper Perkiomen got a team-high 10 points from Holly Crossin.

Bishop Shanahan 69, Pottstown 32 - Despite getting 11 points apiece from Da’Shea Collins and Alicia Rosenberger, the Trojans had no answer for their non-league foe in slipping to 0-3 on the season.

Daniel Boone 47, Perkiomen Valley 29: Sam Pagel hit for 10 points but the Vikings collapsed in the second half of a non-league contest.

Trailing by just five, 23-18, at intermission, PV saw the Blazers (Aly York, 18 points) run away and hide with a 24-11 advantage in the second half.
