Girls Basketball Wrap: Pope John Paul II stays perfect in PAC-10 with narrow win over Pottsgrove Staff Report

UPPER PROVIDENCE – Pope John Paul II stayed perfect in four Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division starts with a 44-40 triumph over Pottsgrove Thursday night.

Holding a narrow 41-40 lead, Haley Mesaros hit the second of two free throws to provide a two-point cushion for PJP. Devin Raugh (7 points) then stole the ensuing inbound pass and converted a baseline jumper to provide the final margin.

Pottsgrove fell to 1-3 in the PAC-10 Frontier, 3-7 overall despite 13 points from Brandi Dickinson and 11 from Marisa Kinneer. Taylor Bearden (11 points) and Devin Casey (8) topped the Golden Panthers in the scoring column.

Phoenixville 43, Upper Merion 39 – Amber Keys poured in 15 points and Aubree Flagg added 9 as the Phantoms secured the nonleague victory.

Phoenixville (4-6 overall, 3-1 Frontier) built a 19-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and held on, despite 19 points from Upper Merion’s Cassidy Koenig.

Boyertown 49, Owen J. Roberts 33 – The Bears improved to 3-1 in the PAC-10 Liberty, 9-1 overall with the easy road victory over the Wildcats (0-4, 1-8 overall).
