Girls hoops: Spring-Ford settles for fourth in district after loss to top seed Plymouth Whitemarsh

(1) Plymouth Whitemarsh 56, (3) Spring-Ford 42 – The three-time Pioneer Athletic Conference champion Rams got 14 points from Lucy Olsen and 11 from Alyssa Yuan but it wasn’t enough in the state playoff seeding battle for third place in the District 1-6A tournament Friday night.

Coming off their third straight loss in the district semifinals - a tough 49-45 setback to (2) Central Bucks Wednesday - Spring-Ford was unable to sustain a fast start that produced a 15-11 first-quarter lead.

The top-seeded Colonials took charge with a 14-4 run in the second quarter to go up 25-19 at the break, then got further separation with an 18-10 edge in the third quarter for an insurmountable 43-29 lead.

Abby Sharpe cashed a game-high 17 points for PW, which capitalized on a lopsided advantage in fouls, hitting 20 of 32 from the stripe while the Rams managed just 7 for 14.

Spring-Ford moves on to the PIAA playoffs Friday, March 6, against the No. 3 seeds from District 11 – Parkland (45-39 winners over Pocono Mountain West in District 11 third place game) at an undetermined time and site.
