Girls soccer: Hull, Bond lead Pope John Paul II to district win; Upper Perkiomen, Boyertown fall

(4) Pope John Paul 1, (5) Phoenixville 0 – Julia Hull found the back of the net in the second half off an assist from Lainey Owens and Hailey Bond collected seven saves to record her third straight clean sheet as the Golden Panthers prevailed in the opening round of the District 1-3A girls soccer playoffs Tuesday.
PJP moves on to the district semifinals Thursday at No. 1 seed Villa Joseph Marie, which blanked No. 8 Upper Perkiomen 2-0 Tuesday.
Ella Stout kept things close with 8 saves for the Phantoms, who fell to 2-4-1 in their abbreviated season.

(1) Villa Joseph Marie 2, (8) Upper Perkiomen 0 – The Indians fell behind 2-0 in the opening half and never recovered in dropping the District 1-3A playoff opener to the top seed. The loss was the sixth straight for Upper Perk, which started the season 5-2 but has fallen to 5-8 overall.
 
Quakertown 2, Boyertown 1 – Alina Fritz had the lone goal for the Bears (5-7-1) in their nonleague setback to the Panthers, who held a 5-3 advantage in shots and got goals from Morgan Sipprell and Callie Abel.
