Girls soccer: Leaman powers Pottsgrove by Phoenixville; Spring-Ford captures opener

Pottsgrove 3, Phoenixville 0 – Alexa Leaman connected for a pair of goals and Leah Henzes added another from the near post as the Falcons blanked the Phantoms in the PAC Frontier Division opener for both teams Friday. Ella Smith made six saves for the clean sheet while Ella Stout finished with seven saves for Phoenixville. Picking up assists for Pottsgrove on Leaman’s strikes were Emily Vishio on a corner and Emma Gonzalez off a cross.

Spring-Ford 2, West Chester Rustin 0 – The Rams opened the season in impressive style at the West Chester Henderson Tournament behind goals from Liv Watt and Raven Wellington, an assist from Brooke Pappa and Erika Eickhoff’s five-save shutout. Spring-Ford, which got an assist from Brooke Pappa on Watt’s strike, held advantages of 16-5 in shots and 4-0 in corners.
 
Methacton 0, Upper Dublin 0, 2 OT – Junior keeper Mairi Smith collected eight saves to help the Warriors survive 100 minutes of scoreless soccer in the season-opening standoff with the Cardinals.
Methacton, which nearly scored when Aubrey Beaugard’s shot caromed off the crossbar in the second half, held an 11-7 edge in shots and matched Upper Dublin’s two corners.
