Girls soccer: Strain boosts Pottsgrove by Boyertown; McVey lifts Spring-Ford to OT win

Pottsgrove 2, Boyertown 1 – Hailey Strain found the back of the net off an assist from Avery Makoid in the 62nd minute to snap a 1-1 tie and power the Falcons to the PAC victory Tuesday.
Strain tracked down a loose ball on the right side of the offensive zone, cut to the box and finished with a left-footed shot to cap a comeback from an early 1-0 deficit furnished by Sam Develin’s goal in the 4th minute for the Bears.
Pottsgrove started its comeback when Lana Sorg found the range of an Eliana Paez helper to forge a 1-1 stalemate at the break.

Spring-Ford 1, Perkiomen Valley 0, OT – The Rams posted their fourth straight shutout victory when Ally McVey found the net off a defensive misclear. Hope Flanegin got the assist on the goal which came in the early stages of the first overtime period.
Riley Wallace registered her fifth clean sheet of the season with four saves while the Vikings got the usual strong effort from their keeper Riley Hill with 12 saves.

Pope John Paul II 1, Phoenixville 0 – The Golden Panthers celebrated the late start to their season with the PAC shutout of the Phantoms, who were also playing their season opener.
PJP took a lead it would never relinquish when Cameron Schuler found the range off a Lainey Owens assist early in the second half (44th minute). Both keepers were strong, Gina Marinelli nailing down the clean sheet with 7 saves and her counterpart Ella Stout, making 8 stops for Phoenixville.

Owen J. Roberts 1, Methacton 0 – The Wildcats, rated No. 1 in the PIAA District 1 Class 4A soccer poll, got revenge for the lone blemish on their slate with the PAC shutout of the Warriors.
Since settling for a 1-1 tie with Methacton in the season opener for both teams on Oct. 2, OJR has ripped off six straight wins by a composite score of 13-1. Five of those wins were by shutout.
