Girls volleyball: Grand night for Harvey, Pope John Paul II

 
(1) Pope John Paul II 3, (8) Interboro 0 – The top-seeded Golden Panthers rolled in straight sets – 25-3, 25-10, 25-10 - in their District 1-3A opener Tuesday as junior setter Chelsea Harvey finished with four kills and six assists, including the 1,000th helper of her career.
Also for the PAC champions, Lauren Phillips (6 kills), Hanna Tulli (5 kills), Heather Lesinski (4 kills), Caroline Regan (4 kills), Lexi McMongale (11 assists, 4 aces), Erin Dychdala (11 assists) and Jessie Donovan (19 service points) had strong showings.
PJP hosts No. 4 Mount St. Joseph Academy Thursday (7 pm) in the district semifinals with the winner locking up a state playoff berth.
 
(14) Methacton 3, (19) Upper Dublin 1 – Melinda Eglinton (12 kills, 12 digs, 2 blocks, 1 ace), Alli Hazlett (9 kills, 3 blocks), Sydney Zerbe (14 digs, 8 kills), Meghan Haftl (36 assists, 4 aces, 11 digs), Elly Brunt (34 digs), Claire Claudy (7 kills, 2 digs) and Emma Ginther (17 digs, 3 kills, 1 ace) set the tone as the Warriors captured the District 1-4A opener 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17. Methacton travels to No. 3 Downingtown East for a second-round clash Thursday (7 pm).
 
(9) Pennridge 3, (24) Perkiomen Valley 1 – The Vikings took the opening set 25-21, but were unable to sustain the early momentum in dropping the District 1-4A opener to the host Rams, who rattled off three straight wins by counts of  25-17, 25-20, 27-25 to advance to Thursday’s second round at (8) West Chester Rustin. Perk Valley finishes its season at 9-10 overall.
