Girls volleyball: Perkiomen Valley, Pope John Paul II, Boyertown advance in districts

(11) Perkiomen Valley 3, (6) CB South 1 – The Vikings pulled off the upset in the first round of the District 1-4A playoffs Monday, taking down the Titans 25-20, 19-25, 25-12 and 25-20.
Isabel Clauhs (13 kills, 4 aces, 1 block), Naomi Clauhs (12 kills, 12 assists, 8 digs, 2 aces), Allison Haflett (7 kills), Abby Souder (20 digs) and Ella Beckman (15 assists, 9 kills, 7 digs, 4 aces) were the linchpins for PV, which moves on to face (3) Council Rock North Thursday in the quarterfinals. CR North advanced with a 3-0 shutout of Downingtown East.
 
(1) Pope John Paul II 3, (4) Gwynedd Mercy Academy 0 – The unbeaten Golden Panthers cruised into the District 1-2A finals in straight sets, 25-11, 25-17 and 25-17, behind Hanna Tulli (11 kills), Chelsea Harvey (8 kills, 26 assists, 3 aces), Heather Lesinski (5 kills), Isabella Ricevuto (4 kills, 4 aces), Jessie Donovan (17 digs, 3 aces) and Lexi McMonagle (7 digs).
Top-seeded PJP will face (2) Mount St. Joseph Academy (3-1 winners over Villa Maria Academy) for the district title and a berth in the state playoffs Thursday at a time and site TBA.
 
(8) Boyertown 3, (9) Sun Valley 2 – Adrianna Derstine delivered 22 kills, 4 digs and 2 aces and Emma Ludwig chipped in with 21 kills, 21 assists and 11 digs to lead the Bears to a five-set victory in the opening round of the District 1-4A playoffs.
Boyertown, which prevailed by counts of 25-21, 18-25, 25-16, 22-25 and 15-11, also got strong showings from Allison Pioli (12 digs, 4 kills), Emma Smith (23 digs) and Grace Rinehimer (26 assists).
The Bears will face top-seeded Unionville in the district quarterfinals Thursday. Unionville swept (16) Plymouth Whitemarsh 3-0 in the opening round Monday.
