LeClaire, White lead Owen J. Roberts to ground-breaking victory

(14) Owen J. Roberts 42, (7) Garnet Valley 41 – Olivia LeClaire filled the stat sheet with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals as the Wildcats secured the first PIAA playoff berth in program history Wednesday in the playback phase of the District 1-6A playoffs.

LeClaire shot 8-for-15 from the field for OJR, which moves on to play at (12) Souderton for ninth place in the district Friday.

There was plenty of drama at the wire in the tight clash – Hannah Clay drilling a three-pointer with 3:00 left to give the Cats a 41-38 lead, answered moments later when the host Jaguars’ Mary Rose Berry knocked down a triple from the top of the key to forge a tie at 41-41.

At the 1:00 mark, Brooke Greenawald hit the first of two free throws for the decisive point but missed the second, OJR retaining possession when Maddi Koury grabbed the offensive rebound.

Clay then missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 20 seconds left, but Garnet Valley committed their 11th turnover of the second half on the ensuing possession and the Cats were on their way to rewriting the record books.

In addition to LeClaire, OJR sophomore point guard Avery White also had a strong showing at the offensive end with 13 points against Garnet Valley, which won the District 1-6A championship last season en route to a berth in the state finals.

The Jaguars will have a chance for an eighth straight PIAA playoff berth when it hosts (9) Downingtown East in a battle for the 11th and final district spot at states Friday.
