OJR's Niness, Phoenixville's Pappas medal at state swimming championships

LEWISBURG – Owen J. Roberts junior Mikayla Niness and Phoenixville sophomore Erini Pappas both came away from the opening day of the PIAA Class 3A Swimming Championsips at Bucknell University Friday with seventh-place state medals.
 
Niness clocked in at 23.75 in the 50-yard freestyle for seventh, finishing 0.75 off the pace set by Gateway junior Olivia Livingston - the state record holder who earned the gold with a 23.00 finish.
 
Pappas took seventh in the 100 butterfly (56.47) and 12th in the 200 individual medley (2:06.81) while Boyertown sophomore Gabrielle McKee finished 13th in the 200 IM (2:06.83). 
 
Also, Owen J. Roberts’ 200 medley relay group of freshman Lauren Zelinske, senior Lilia Crew, sophomore Abbey Malmstrom and Niness finished third in the B final (11th overall) in 1:47.17.
 
In the boys portion of the meet, Phoenixville’s 200 medley relay team of George Pappas, Dominic Sposato, Mitchell Schwartz and Jack Hussin placed 24th in the prelims (1:38.28) and failed to advance.
