Soccer wrap: Upper Perkiomen boys edge Upper Merion; Schuler powers PJP girls

Upper Perkiomen 2, Upper Merion 1 – Jim Freidman’s second-half goal was the difference as the host Indians edged the Vikings Friday in PAC Frontier action. For Upper Merion, Arjun Kaushik countered Logan Watkins’ opening strike off a great hustle play by finding the net.

GIRLS SOCCER
Pope John Paul II 2, Coatesville 1 – Cameron Schuler got the scoring started just 15 seconds in and later added a second goal in the 15th minute to power the Golden Panthers to the nonleague triumph Friday.
It was the third brace in four games for Schuler, who's posted nine points overall in that explosive span. Sophia Hinke and Sarah Boyce had the assists on Schuler’s strikes for PJP, which got a strong performance in goal from keeper Kyanni Escudero.
 
Unionville 2, Boyertown 1 – The Bears got a goal from Maddi Springman in the nonleague loss to the Indians, who were led by goals from Jules Muntz and Hope Politi.

West Chester East 1, Phoenixville 0 – Molly Smeins scored the game’s only goal in the first half off a Zoe Specht assist and keeper Sydney Slusser posted 8 saves for the shutout in the Vikings' nonleague win over the Phantoms, who got five saves from goalie Ella Stout in a losing effort.
