Softball wrap: Perkiomen Valley, Methacton advance in districts

(23) Perkiomen Valley 3, (10) Hatboro-Horsham 1 – The Vikings (13-7) pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh inning to keep their season alive Monday in the opening round of the District 1-6A playoffs.
Josie Strechay’s RBI-single and Jordan Sell’s RBI-double were the big blows in the frame, sandwiched around an infield error by the Hatters that allowed the go-ahead run to score.
Katie Hurd worked two shutout innings of relief for the win, escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the sixth with no damage behind starter Ava Macalis (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K), who was forced to exit after being hit by a line drive.
Sell finished with two of the five hits for the Vikings, who play at (7) Haverford High Wednesday in the second round of districts.
(9) Methacton 7, (24) Harry S. Truman 3 – Nichole Dorn and Tori Bockrath (home run) collected two hits apiece, Caraline Newman and Nicole Timko each drove in two runs and Caroline Pellicano went the distance in the circle for the win, allowing just one earned run and one walk while striking out eight, as the Warriors (16-5) advanced to a second-round District 1-6A playoff date at (8) Garnet Valley Wednesday.
(1) West Chester East 11, (16) Pope John Paul II 1, 6 innings – The Golden Panthers managed just four hits in their season-ending loss in the opening round of the District 1-5A playoffs.
Ashlyn Lewis’ double and Grace Harvey’s RBI-single keyed the attack for PJP, which finishes its season 7-13.
