State softball wrap: Spring-Ford cruises into quarterfinals; Upper Perkiomen, Upper Merion ousted

(1-3) Spring-Ford 10, (12-1) St. Hubert’s 0, 5 innings – Freshman Jules Scogna fired a no-hit shutout over 5 innings with 10 strikeouts and Ashley Della Guardia picked up three hits as the Rams advanced to the second round of the PIAA Class 6A tournament with the lopsided win Monday at Arcadia University.
Bridget Sharkey drove in two runs with a double and triple and Noelle Reid picked up three RBI as Spring-Ford (24-1) moved on to a state quarterfinal matchup with (11-1) Parkland at a time and site to be determined Thursday.
Parkland advanced with an 8-0 shutout of (1-5) Conestoga Monday.

(2-1) Pittston Area 4, (1-3) Upper Perkiomen 0 – The Indians suffered the season-ending loss in the opening round of the PIAA Class 5A playoffs after getting no-hit by the Patriots’ Alexa McHugh at the University of Scranton Monday.
The only  baserunner for Upper Perk (17-8) was Sierra Fretz, who drew a walk. Lily Dibble took the loss for UP, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs while walking one and striking out none.
McHugh (10 strikeouts) and Morgan Mesaris had two hits apiece for Pittston, which got RBI from Tori Para, Shayla Williams (double), Bernadette Lieback and Morgan Mesaris.
The Patriots move on to face District 1 champion West Chester East Thursday in the state quarterfinals at a time and site to be determined.

(3-1) Twin Valley 1, (1-4) Upper Merion 0 – Grace Marsalo fired a four-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and snapped a scoreless tie with an RBI-single in the sixth inning to lift the Raiders past the Vikings in the opening round of the PIAA Class 5A tournament at Lyons Field in Fleetwood.
Upper Merion wasted a strong start by Kayla Warren, who allowed just four hits and one unearned run in going the distance for the loss. Katelyn O’Brien was 2-3 to pace Upper Merion, which finishes its strong season at 14-11.
