Sylvester shoots Golden Panthers into PIAA playoffs

(11) Pope John Paul II 41, (7) Harriton 32 – The Golden Knights (16-11) overcame a 10-point deficit with a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter, keyed by a remarkable shooting performance at the free throw line, to secure the victory and lock up a state playoff berth Tuesday night in District 1-5A playbacks.
Elise Sylvester finished with 16 points, going 10-for-10 at the stripe to trigger a 14-15 foul shooting effort (93 percent) in the final 3:00 for PJP, which moves on to play at (4) Radnor Friday for fifth place in the district. Radnor advanced with a 58-52 wire-to-wire victory over West Chester East in the other 5A consolation game.
Lauren Ciuba cashed 12 points and Kallen Bustynowicz added 11 rebounds and 7 points for PJP, which reversed a 23-15 deficit by posting a 26-9 edge in the fourth quarter.
