Warren, Peterlin, Honicker earn gold medals at state indoor championships

STATE COLLEGE – Perkiomen Valley got gold-medal performances from seniors Christina Warren and Cole Peterlin while Owen J. Roberts senior Scott Honicker also brought home a gold to headline the PAC effort at this weekend’s PTFCA Indoor State Track and Field Championships at Penn State University.

Warren came away from the high-profile meet with one gold and two silvers after far outdistancing the field in the triple jump (40-10), just 1.5 inches shy of the meet record (40-11.5) set by Chambersburg’s Marshay Ryan in 2013.I She also took seconds in the both the 60 hurdles (8.45) and long jump (18-6.5) to add to her medal haul.

Peterlin won in a jump-off with Bermudian Springs’ Kolt Byers for the high jump title with a leap of 6-feet, 7-inches, and Honiker earned the top spot in the 60 hurdles (8.04), breaking the tape just ahead of Hempfield Area’s Jared Bannon (8.10). Norristown’s Ramir Wiggins took fifth in the 60 hurdles (8.25).

Also in the boys competition, Norristown sprinter Austin Montgomery placed fifth in the 200 (21.91) and seventh in the 60 (7.03) and Perkiomen Valley’s Jason Wagner finished sixth in the shot put (52-11.75).

In the girls portion of the meet, Norristown’s Teliyah James was sixth in the 60 (7.70) and 12th in the 200 (25.52), Methacton’s Nickolina Annelli was sixth in pole vault (11-6) and Boyertown junior Emma Elwell set school indoor track records with a 10th-place finish in the 60 (7.86) and a 17th in the 200 (25.88).
